Is your cat acting strange lately?

Last week, when I arrived home from work, I noticed that my cat hasn’t touched his food since morning. It was strange! He always finished his meal...

It started to worry me once it continued on to the next day, hence I decided to call my friend who is a veterinarian. He mentioned that it might be due to stress, and gave me some guidelines to identify other signs of stress in order to better diagnose it. I decided to write this article, to help other cat parents who may be going through the same situation to identify these stress symptoms.

There are two types of symptoms that can indicate the stress signs:

Behavioral SYMPTOMS

  • Spraying urine on furniture around the house or urinating in unusual places.

  • Excessive scratching

  • Aggressive behavior against humans or other pets

  • Excessive meowing

  • Withdrawal from you and the family, no longer interested in interacting with you

  • Unresponsiveness to sudden movement around them

  • Persistently hiding when at home

PHYSICAL SYMPTOMS

  • Poor appetite or eating less than normal

  • Excessive eating and/or drinking

  • Sudden weight loss or weight gain

  • A poor coat condition due to over-grooming

  • Not going to the toilet as often as usual

  • Digestive Issues such as Diarrhea, Constipation

Cat stress is serious, we should be careful to provide the best environment to our kitten. If you notice any of the above signs, be sure to identify what’s bothering your cat.

Small changes can make big differences!
